Going Coastal is an epic tale of transformation. It is an autobiographical account of the struggles of first time author, Hugh Mongous Johnson and details many of the challenges encountered by the author over the course of the final twenty years of the twentieth century. The audience is brought along on the rollercoaster ride of the aspiring artist/ musician after he graduates high school in 1980 and leaves the dysfunction of a broken home in the Midwest and makes the journey, in a round about way, to California and the west coast of the US, in pursuit of a career in the arts. It is a coming of age story and provides the reader with a detailed version of the true facts surrounding the experience, not only in crossing the North American continent, but also of a young man transformed into adulthood void the benefit of parental guidance or support. The book is intended to be an inspirational story, written in the uncensored, gonzo style and directed toward a mature audience.
